Tackling Tempers
Curiosity and demand are the two major traits of kids!
Their endless questionnaire and demands sometimes
becomes bit exhaustive and frustrating. Hey, do not lose
your nerve! You can handle all the tempers and tantrums
of your kid, but for this you need some patience!
It is very tough for young kids to understand the
difference between right and wrong. They do not know how
to differentiate between wants and requirements. Being a
parent, it is your responsibility to make your child
understand the big difference between them. Don’t get
exhausted, just be patient!
Explain the Difference
The best way to make your kid understand the difference
is by explanation. Draw a clear picture to him/her.
For instance, your kid loves fast food, Burger or Pizza
and he/she keeps insisting for that. Instead of
fulfilling his/her demand or losing your temper, explain
the disadvantages of having lots of burger or pizzas. It
might get result in some serious health problem and
he/she may have to visit a Doctor for some medication or
injection.
Your way of explanation will have a strong impact on
your kid’s mind. He/she will draw various conclusions on
your explanation and would most probably limit his/her
demands.
Act Reasonably
“Mom, I will have my dinner later after this show.”
This is quite common among kids. They usually postpone
things which they do not like. For instance, “can I play
the computer game now and will do the homework later?’
Instead of doing his/her homework, he/she wants to do
something of his/her interest. In such situation, you
must not lose your temper or let your child loses
his/her. Now, it is the time to act smartly as well as
reasonably.
Instead of saying a clear no, you must reply
affirmatively.
“Why not darling! But, I want to be with you and
would love to finish your homework first.”
Be Firms
-
It is the tendency of kids to break rules, but your firm
and clear voice will inhibit them. They will understand
that they must have committed some wrong.
-
Another great way to stop your kid when he/she is doing
some wrong is by giving him/her long stare. This will
make the kid understand that that it is the time to
stop. Try to make your kid accustomed to your body
language.
Ignorance is The Best
Sometimes kids want to grab the attention of their
parents or family members, when they are busy with
something else. In order to divert attention towards
them, they shout, make faces or slam doors.
Parents usually get crazy over such actions. Instead of
losing your temper, ignore him/her completely. This is
the best way to make your kid understand, that such
behaviour is completely futile and will gain no
attention at all.
Lastly, keep praising your kid.
Appreciation is the best way to make your kid understand
that you know all his/her little or big achievements. |
