Significance of Self Dependence
in Kids
During our lifetime, parenthood is certainly one of the
best phases. We spent some of the crucial part of our
lives in meeting our child’s needs. If you have a small
baby in the family then this leads to responsibility.
You have to fulfill all his/her needs and requirements.
Early years of your kids play a significant role in
their personality and development. Instead of acting as
an ‘overprotective parents’, it would be advisable to
act smart and behave like an ‘intelligent parents’.

Intelligent Parents
A recent survey conducted between overprotective and
intelligent parents shows that kids of later are smarter
and usually take correct decisions. Nowadays, more and
more parents want to be ‘intelligent’ and not
‘overprotective’. They have understood the significance
of personal decision making by kids.
Intelligent parents have realized that when the kids
make mistakes then they also got invaluable opportunity
to learn. This will be lifelong lesson for kids and in
future they will think twice before committing that all
over again.
With the growing years, your kid must be self reliant
and decision maker. This will make him/her confident and
he/she would be able trust his/her decisions.
Although, it is quite tough for parents to decide when
to allow the kids to do something independently, still
it is the most significant part for the healthy
development of your kid. On the other hand, parents
should not leave the kid all alone. It is their
responsibility to know when to allow them to take
decisions and when to offer your assistance.
Tips for Making Your Kid Self
Reliant
Initially, you can allow your kids to make decisions.
For Instance, which shirt would you like to wear in your
friend’s birthday, yellow shirt or the orange one?
Or
What would you like to have in your dinner, mixed
vegetable with bread or Vegetable Pulao?
Such small decisions will make the kids feel important.
With the passage of time, allow your kid for some major
decision making, such as choice of friends or sports.
Encourage Your Kid
Another interesting way for making your kid self
dependent is by engaging him/her in house hold chores.
-
Ask your kid to make his/her bed.
-
You can also ask him to tie his shoe
laces on his own.
-
Allow your kid to take clothes out
from the dryer. Now, ask him/her to take out all
his/her clothes and place them neatly in his/her
wardrobe
Be Your Kid’s Best Friends
Whenever your kid comes to you with some of his/her
queries, do not answer at once. On the contrary, make
things clearer and transparent by asking more related
questions. This will enable your kid to understand the
pros and cons of his/her decisions.
Next time onwards, whenever he/she has to decide
something, he/she will analyze in the same manner.
If your kid is committing a mistake, it is fine because
he/she has at least tried. Do not make your kid feel
embarrassed. On the contrary, it your responsibility to
encourage him/her to do it more accurately with your
much needed guidance!
