How to Set a Bed Time Routine
For a preschooler, world is full of new happenings and
excitements! He/she has to explore the beauty and gift
of the world, which includes playing, running, shouting,
eating, laughing and crying. Thus, how could he/she
think of sleep, as it stops all his/her excitement?
The bed time of your kid starts an hour before you want
him to sleep. Some parents find bedtime for kids a very
tough time, as they are not ready to sleep. This results
in harsh behavior and scolding. Instead of behaving
harshly, you can also make things much better.
Make Bed Time as Best Time
Bed time offers some great time to spend with your
preschooler. Try to grab best out of it by switching off
your mobile, TV and computer. Now, ask your kid to brush
his teeth, and change pajamas.
You must follow a few things before setting up a bed
time routine for your child:
-
To make the room cozy and comfortable, play light
children’s music with a soothing night light.
-
Intake of food and drink must be reduced before the bed
time.
-
Bring some cute stuffed toys for your kids. This will
give them a nice feeling while sleeping.
-
Read some short stories to your child. This is a great
way to make him sleep on time.
In order to make your kid secure, you must hold him/her
tightly into bed.
Make Your Kid Independent
It has been often seen that kids become dependent on
their parents to fall asleep. Try to make them
independent by allowing them to sleep on their own. In
order to do this, play soft music or children classics.
Now, turn on the night light and say your kid good
night. You must assure your kid that you will be back in
a few minutes to see whether she has slept or not. It
would be advisable to keep your promise.
Disadvantage of Poor Bed Time
Routines
-
If your kid is not having adequate sleep then he/she
will feel overtired and cranky.
-
This will result in bad performance in school and
reduced work efficiency.
-
A normal preschooler needs to have 10-12 hours of sleep
at night. In case, he is not having then he/she will not
be able to concentrate and can also lead to night time
waking.
-
In order to avoid all such problems, you must set a
bedtime routine for your kid.
Do’s and Don’ts For a Good
Night Sleep
-
Try to make your child comfortable. For instance, if
your kid is not comfortable in his/her night dress then
allow him/her to choose other.
-
Allow your kid to choose a story book of his own choice.
-
Check the linens and pillows regularly. They must be
comfortable, as they play key role in a good night
sleep.
-
A light snack during bed time is also good, such as
apple, cookies or milk. This will prevent waking in
midnight due to hunger.
Lastly, you must reassure your kid
with a sweet “Good Night”! |
